10 Nourishing Hair Masks to Hydrate Dry, Damaged Locks

Dreary cold weather doesn’t just impact our skin, wardrobe choices and moods. It also can do a number on our hair. Frigid temperatures can turn the silkiest locks into dry, straggly, frizzy messes that no amount of shine serum can fix. Strands need more than a temporary smoothing out. They need moisture and they need it desperately. And hair masks provide ample nourishment to dry ends and colored strands.

Hydrating hair masks are often on rotation in people’s summer routines when they want to combat the drying effects of heat, salt water and hair coloring sessions. But in winter, we sometimes get so preoccupied with preventing dry scales on our faces and bodies that we forget about our strands and simply hide them under a hat. #Guilty

It’s time to break the bad habit. We’ve rounded up some of the best hydrating formulas that will combat the moisture-sucking impact of arctic temperatures, central heating and excessive holiday party hairstyling. The masks provide deep nourishment to extremely dry and dyed hair that conditioner can’t.

Keep strands nourished in the colder weather with these moisturizing hair masks that fight frizz and provide major hydration.

Amber Valletta Delivers an ‘Absolutely Gorgeous’ Vogue Spain December 2020 Cover

The holiday season is upon us and each and every year we love nothing more than the sight of festive glamour on the covers of our favorite fashion glossies. Although this year magazines are shying away from going ultra glam with their December covers. But not Vogue Spain. The Spanish fashion bible grants our wish with a 90s supermodel thrown in for good measure. Forum favorite Amber Valletta makes a dazzling return to the cover 27 years after her last appearance. Photographed by Txema Yeste and styled by Alba Melendo, the American beauty flaunts a strapless red gown from Giambattista Valli’s Fall 2020 Haute Couture collection, Cartier jewelry, slicked-back hair, smoky eyes and a killer stare for the December 2020 issue.

The cover was an instant hit. “I love everything about this cover, the background beautifully contrasts nicely against the title font color and Amber’s dress,” praised GERGIN.

“Always happy to see Amber! Love the festive red and green combination against a simple backdrop. It’s perfect for December!” declared aracic.

“Fashion! Glamour! Festiveness! Everything we have been missing this year,” applauded A.D.C.

YSL87 couldn’t agree more: “Love how festive it is! Amber has such an expensive face and with all the elements it becomes a perfect December cover.”

“Wonderful. It’s the most festive December cover of Vogue we’ve seen this month (thus far) and for that reason alone I am sold. The colors are gorgeous, very luxe and elegant for this time of the year. Plus, we have Amber Valletta (who is always a good idea) and a sense of glamour,” appreciated vogue28.

Although not everyone was sold. “I love Amber, but the out-of-focus hair and makeup are ugly,” disapproved Serend1pity.

“I feel so distracted by that hideous hair!” exclaimed helmutnotdead.

Meanwhile, liberty33r1b described the cover as “absolutely gorgeous.”

Steven Meisel Captures Prada’s Dreamy Holiday 2020 Campaign

Ever since Miuccia Prada opted to drop Steven Meisel as Prada’s campaign photographer in 2016, our forum members have been a disappointed bunch. Not even numerous ads shot by Willy Vanderperre have sufficed. (Although David Sims proved to be a better fit.) Now that Raf Simons is co-creative director, things are shaping up for the Italian fashion house. Especially since Meisel is back behind the lens for Prada’s Holiday 2020 campaign. Freja Beha Erichsen, Mao Xiaoxing, Maty Fall, Merlijne Schorren and Rudolfs Valbergs were remotely snapped for the series of cinematic images based on an original short story written for the campaign by author Candice Carty-Williams.

The campaign couldn’t have come at a better time. “Meisel and Prada in black and white is never a miss. I love this. Puts all Willy’s campaigns to shame,” declared RaisinBoy.

“I cannot believe my eyes. I am shaking! An iconic pairing in 2020… Pure fashion and luxury! Dream-inducing imagery!” raved dontbeadrag.

“Wow am I dreaming? The photos are absolutely stunning!” agreed Conbothsides.

“This is exactly what Willy tried to do for the house but unfortunately didn’t have the range to do so,” voiced Krystalblue006.

“This is really classic and simple. The images smell expensive to me,” praised dodencebt.

GivenchyHomme shared the same level of enthusiasm: “This is an exceptional campaign and not just because of the return of Meisel. It’s an original concept that was executed perfectly. I love the different perspectives.”

“They better stick with Meisel from here on now. This campaign slaps you even when you’re seeing it from afar,” said PierreGotha.

Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh Help Marie Claire Close Out 2020

This year has been pretty turbulent for Marie Claire. Anne Fulenwider wrapped up her tenure, then Aya Kanai temporarily took over and just a few months later Sally Holmes was announced as Kanai’s replacement. Despite the mag’s game of musical chairs, it still managed to deliver stellar covers starring Elle Fanning, Emily Blunt, Gisele Bündchen, Megan Thee Stallion and Janet Mock. Now Marie Claire closes out the year with two Hollywood actresses with the unveiling of its Winter 2020 issue. Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh both land covers snapped by photographer Quentin Jones.

The first cover (above) left a whole lot to be desired. “Rip it up some more and start again,” voiced tigerrouge.

“Huh? What?” asked a dumbfounded kokobombon.

“What a train wreck,” Benn98 chimed in.

KINGofVERSAILLES shared the same sentiment: “This is a sick joke.”

“Will this magazine survive in 2021?” wondered crmsnsnwflks.

“The pictures themselves are quite nice actually. But the design…” Marc10 pointed out.

“I like the shot of Scarlett that’s used in the cover actually, but the layout is appalling. Florence’s solo cover is pretty and nice but nothing groundbreaking,” remarked honeycombchild.

“Dumbfounded as to how that collage cover ever saw the light of day when those two solo covers of Scarlett and Florence are far superior — particularly Scarlett’s, which I find to be rather refreshing…” said vogue28.

All the December 2020 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated

While September covers are the most anticipated of the year, December covers also have a lot to offer. Magazines tend to focus on the holidays to close out the year. Which we’re totally fine with. (Especially since 2020 was pretty horrible.) So we’re happy to report that many December 2020 covers embraced the season in style.

Another high point? There’s plenty of diversity. Many mags featured women of color and both American Vogue and Allure opted for male cover stars (Harry Styles and Pharrell Williams, respectively).

In addition, we’re treated to striking shots of modeling superstars. We’re talking Joan Smalls, Candice Swanepoel, Irina Shayk, Liya Kebede and Amber Valletta.

See the slideshow above to discover all the December 2020 covers we adore and the ones we can do without.

30 Ways to Wear Your Winter Whites Without Getting Washed Out

Images: Imaxtree

One of the oldest fashion “rules” is that white is off-limits after Labor Day. We’re not exactly sure where this concept came from, but it’s clearly nonsense since most of the street style crowd are all about winter whites. While these sartorial stars have pretty much debunked the myth, that doesn’t mean sporting white-on-white looks is easy-peasy.

Going head-to-toe white can often wash you out and nobody wants that. The key is to opt for different shades of white — ivory, ecru, off-white, eggshell — to keep things interesting. Or you can insert some strategic pops of color to give your look added dimension. And don’t be afraid to rely on other known neutrals like gray, black and brown or favor statement coats in plaid or camo. Texture is also important since it can add a little kick to an otherwise stark ensemble.

Ready to give it a go? Here’s a street style crib sheet on how to flaunt those winter whites without blending into the snowy background.

Lily-Rose Depp Stars in Chanel’s Sun-Drenched Cruise 2021 Campaign

We’re all well aware that Lily-Rose Depp is affiliated with Chanel. Since 2015 she’s appeared in the French fashion house’s eyewear campaigns and mainline ads (alongside Cara Delevingne), worn Chanel on countless magazines covers (even posing with Karl Lagerfeld on Vogue Paris) and became the face of the brand’s N°5 L’Eau scent. So we aren’t surprised to see the young model starring in Chanel’s Cruise 2021 campaign captured posing around the grounds of a Mediterranean villa by Karim Sadli.

“It’s Chanel x H&M?” wondered an unimpressed thatsfierce.

“It all looks so cheap,” proclaimed Ghesquiere32.

“One word: cheap,” echoed helmutnotdead.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“They look like cheap Chanel imitations. Lily-Rose looks great, but cheap-looking clothes are cheap-looking clothes no matter who is wearing them,” voiced GivenchyHomme.

But not everyone felt the same way. “I think Lily-Rose fits Chanel and looks great in it… She has a combination of both French chic and Los Angeles cool, which fits the essence of the modern Chanel woman,” said Overindulgence.

Lola701 was also a fan: “I think the campaign is good. Good photography and it’s slightly uplifting.”

“I love it, think the concept of the campaign and the choice to cast Lily-Rose Depp capture the spirit of Virginie Viard’s collection perfectly — and the sight of a sun-drenched swimming pool is pretty much exactly what I’m craving right now,” raved vogue28.

Hoodies Are the Street Style Secret to Winter Layering

Hoodies are street style winners.

Instant hooded coat; Image: Imaxtree

There’s a reason we admire the street style set. Members of the fashion elite have an uncanny ability to take an item that was once dismissed as tacky and make it suddenly relevant again. Who would have imagined that fanny packs, neon and bike shorts would be must-haves? You can also add hoodies to that ever-growing list.

Add a hoodie to extend the life of your fall jacket.

Hoodies let you hold on to fall jackets a little longer; Image: Imaxtree

Just like turtlenecks, hooded sweatshirts have become key layering pieces during fashion week. Looking to take that kimono-style wrap jacket into winter? Just layer a hoodie underneath. Longing to participate in the off-the-shoulders jacket trend but too practical to expose yourself to the cold? Slipping on a hoodie makes the trend blizzard-appropriate. Wish your fave winter coat came with a warm hood? Work in a hoodie for instant gratification.

Secure all those layers with a belt bag.

Match your hoodie to your belt bag for extra credit; Image: Imaxtree

While solid color hoodies are frequently favored on the streets, there’s also room for graphic prints, tie-dye and structured necklines. There are even wool versions you can rock as outerwear (which presents a whole new range of styling opportunities). And designers have gotten in on the action with Isabel Marant, Stella McCartney and Paco Rabanne all supplying high-end options.

From cropped to oversized, find your perfect fit in the slideshow below.
