Breezy Linen Pieces You’ll Want to Live in This Summer

linen pieces

A little off-white dress, but make it linen; Image: Imaxtree

Summer isn’t just about cotton. Linen is a classic warm-weather fabric with increased interest of late. It’s mainly thanks to the utilitarian trend, our love of all things brown and the rise of suits for all seasons. Those who live in flowing cotton blouses and dresses may feel set in their ways, but there’s room for both textiles in a stylish summer wardrobe. Linen is crisp and cool and the right pieces can go from a morning stroll to rooftop cocktails.

The trending fabric is by no means limited to traditional suits and neutral colors. Many of the style set’s favorite pieces are crafted out of colorful linen. Linen dresses are as popular as suits plus there are plenty of shorts, skirts, blouses and even jumpsuits to pick from. Worried about wrinkles? Embrace them or opt for a linen mix fabric. (It’s not cheating.)

Ahead, shop the best linen pieces to beat the summer heat.

Kaia Gerber Brings Hope and Optimism to Vogue’s June/July 2021 Cover

It’s hard to believe a whole year has gone by since American Vogue served up that absolutely poignant Irving Penn cover. Ever since the mag’s delivered megawatt cover stars, including Naomi Campbell, Harry Styles along with Selena Gomez. Now Kaia Gerber makes her solo debut on the American fashion bible with the unveiling of its June/July 2021 issue. The all-American beauty poses in Malibu wearing a Chanel Spring 2021 Haute Couture dress (selected by Tonne Goodman) for the image shot by Colin Dodgson.

Nevertheless, the cover is receiving mixed reviews. “The cover looks regal! I love the fact that Vogue is finally trying to spice things up with its covers without fully changing its brand,” admired crmsnsnwflks.

“For some reason, I really like this,” admits MyNameIs.

“That’s quite a lovely shot!” confesses mikel.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“This is just fantastic. A cozy and indeed hopeful cover where everything comes together so well,” approved an obviously thrilled 1018am.

MON is certainly a fan: “I like it. There’s something very hopeful about this particular cover. Maybe it’s the way that she’s looking ahead?”

“Got no complaints seeing Kaia Gerber on the cover of Vogue, always love the sight of a beach, love the clear blue skies and the warm sunset lighting along with the sense of freedom and optimism the cover brings…” voiced vogue28.

But clearly not everyone is happy. “At this point the death of Vogue is self-inflicted. People are bored of seeing the same-looking, boring, rich, nepotism girls pushed at them,” wrote Serend1pity.

“U.S. Vogue is so lost, I don’t hate the cover nor am I wowed by it, it’s just meh,” proclaimed ReneSanchez.

So are you feeling the cover? Sound off on Vogue‘s latest and join the debate here.

Why Lip Oils Are So Much Better Than Lip Gloss

There are many different lip products to choose from. We’re talking glosses, liquid lipsticks, balms, lip stains, lipsticks, exfoliants and even lip top coats. But there’s a lip product you may not be familiar with: lip oils. They may not be as well known as some of the others, but that could change. Especially since more and more brands are adding oils to their product offerings.

If you’re a fan of face oils or oil-based shampoos, it’s high time that you discovered lip oils. What sets them apart from the other products on the market is that they are oil-based, just like the name implies. The resulting product is packed with moisturizing ingredients to keep your lips soft and flake-free. What’s more, they deliver a glossy finish and a hint of color, without the stickiness we associate with lip glosses.

Read on for 12 lip oils to add to your makeup stash.

The Underrated Summer Staple We’re Buying in Bulk

Just because the weather is warming up doesn’t mean you can’t wear sweaters anymore. After all, sweater vests and cropped knits provide plenty of ventilation. It’s also prime time for short-sleeve cardigans.

The cardigan is an essential layering tool in fall and winter. The shorter-sleeve versions provide the same type of service once the temps go above 60. They even work as swimsuit cover-ups.

Many of these cardis are cropped. But don’t worry about exposing too much flesh. Simply slip a tee or tank underneath. (A handful even come with matching tops.) You can also rock them solo. Especially when wearing jeans or slouchy trousers.

Read on to discover all the short-sleeve cardigans we’re currently eyeing.

Our forum members certainly love the outcome. “I’m completely obsessed. Every single luxury brand of the world should be ashamed and humiliated by Zara,” said an obviously thrilled helmutnotdead.

“You know the world has changed when Zara has a better cast of photographers (for a beauty campaign no less) than any issue of American Vogue within the past two years,” declared YohjiAddict.

“If this was all in a magazine I would be buying it,” raved bluestar.

Kristen Stewart and Juergen Teller Join Forces for Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2021 Campaign

Virginie Viard continues to find her footing with Chanel’s advertising campaigns. Since stepping into the shoes of the late Karl Lagerfeld, the designer has picked everyone from Steven Meisel to Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin as campaign photographers. Now it’s Juergen Teller’s turn via Chanel’s Pre-Fall 2021 offering. Following the collection’s unveiling at the Château de Chenonceau in France, Teller makes use of the majestic location as the campaign’s backdrop. Brand ambassador Kristen Stewart makes an appearance as the face of the Renaissance-inspired collection posing on the grounds of the architectural masterpiece for the haunting images.

IMAGE: CHANEL.COM

The campaign immediately caught the attention of our forum members. “So basically it looks like Kristen and Juergen took an unplanned walk after the show and this is what came out of it. At least the images feel very real and raw,” said toffie.

“I normally don’t care for Chanel ads too much, but this set of images really irritates me. It doesn’t even look like Teller, either, it really looks like the age of crappy digicams. All these images are missing is the date and time in one of the corners,” critiqued nejtak.

“Good god, what a disaster!” declared aracic.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

HodanChloe shared the same sentiment: “Juergen Teller really needs to take a break. Kristen looks terrible here. I never understood what Chanel saw in her.”

“The problem that I’m having with Chanel is the lack of consistency. We were used to one vision in terms of campaigns for 30 years and suddenly, it seems like every photographer shoots a campaign…” noted Lola701.

But not everyone felt the same way. “Juergen Teller is one of my least favorite fashion photographers, but…I’m not mad. The rugged landscape mixed with Teller’s raw aesthetic works wonders together and I’m liking the juxtaposition between the wilderness and the immaculate and luxurious pieces of the collection,” voiced vogue28.

“The setting works and the rawness of the images actually lends itself to the clothes…” echoed reese06.

Olly Eley Breaks New Ground as British ELLE’s First Non-Binary Cover Star

Farrah Storr continues to propel British ELLE to new heights and is on a mission to break new ground. Not only did we receive an actual fashion model as last month’s cover star, the magazine sent shock waves through the industry with its triumphant January cover featuring Aweng and Alexus Ade-Chuol. Now another groundbreaking moment comes our way for June 2021 as Olly Eley becomes the publication’s first non-binary cover star with photographer Damon Baker capturing the Australian-British model for the cover shot.

UK Elle June 2021 : Olly Eley by Damon Baker

IMAGE: ELLEUK.COM

ELLE‘s latest divided our forum members. “Is it me or has ELLE made them more feminine than what Olly Eley usually looks like in other shoots?” asked kokobombon.

“I don’t feel the fashion from this cover,” added caioherrero.

“Can fashion magazines stop thinking they can change the world or how we think and just focus on fashion? It is so insulting and patronizing to the reader to assume what any of our ideals are,” voiced Gary89.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“I have no idea who this person is, but perhaps they’re a thing in the U.K.? Anyway the cover is bad,” shared mepps.

“People mad because a non-binary person appears on the cover of a fashion magazine is the reason why LGBTQ+ representation in massive media and fashion still matters,” declared JPineapple.

“The cover itself doesn’t do it for me as much as last month’s Vogue Paris knockoff, but I have to firmly applaud Farrah Storr for steering British ELLE in a new direction, giving us covers and cover subjects which break new ground. The January cover is already up for an award!” noted vogue28.

WAVES was in the same frame of mind: “This sort of cover and topic will always generate all sorts of thinking so to each their own… And if it creates awareness and provides sensitive information, good for them and readers.”

Vogue Italia Reaches for the Stars With Its May 2021 Covers

Ever since Emanuele Farneti took over Vogue Italia, we’ve gotten themed issues in addition to multiple covers. For example, there were 100 covers for September 2020. Not to mention editions dedicated to everything from animals to everyday style. Now for May 2021, the magazine presents the astrology issue featuring 12 absolutely collectible covers by Oliver Hadlee Pearch. Greta Elisa Hofer, Selena Forrest, Amar Akway, Caren Jepkemei, Maty Fall, Anna Ewers, Rebecca Leigh Longendyke, Quinn Mora, Loli Bahia, Grace Hartzel, Jill Kortleve, Miriam Sanchez along with Sora Choi sport the same Chanel Pre-Fall 2021 piece picked by Charlotte Collet.

Nevertheless, our forum members certainly aren’t fans. “Farneti could consult an astrologer to see his ideas are terrible!” suggested DK92.

“Who buys these? Not their worst, but a total slap on the face nonetheless,” noted an obviously unimpressed dontbeadrag.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

While Style Savvy was clearly far from overjoyed: “Could’ve done more with this theme, but what did we expect from Farneti?”

“I actually like the concept, but the result is just the same old, same old,” LastNight pointed out.

“This is laughably bad. Twelve astrology signs and instead of representing what is unique about each sign, they dress every model in the exact same outfit so they all look exactly the same,” said dfl-001.

“Was it really necessary to style every single girl with the exact same Chanel outfit?” asked 90sbea.

“This is next-level boring. There’s no life nor substance in these photos,” complained a definitely disappointed bluestar.

5 Common Mistakes You’re Making When Applying Blush

Blush is an important part of our glow-up routines. But it’s so much more than a way to highlight your cheekbones. If you use it right, blush can really give your whole face a lift.

Applying blush is not just about getting rosy cheeks, it can also help accentuate your features. And it can give you that effortless natural glow we all crave year-round.

If you don’t know the right techniques, applying blush can be tricky and you could end up looking campy — and not in the good Met Gala way. Even if you’re going with a more neutral shade, you need to know how to brush it on. Here are five common mistakes people make when applying blush and how to avoid them.

Edie Campbell Brings Retro Glamour to Vogue Korea’s May 2021 Covers

We approve of whatever is going on over at Vogue Korea. Covers starring Binx Walton, Liya Kebede and Raquel Zimmermann thrilled us to no end over the last several months. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear standards are about to slip. Fresh off the cover of Vogue Germany, Edie Campbell poses for two covers for the Korean fashion bible’s latest. Captured by Felix Cooper and styled by Eunyoung Sohn, the top model is decked out in looks from Saint Laurent’s Spring 2021 collection on the two striking covers.

The covers garnered mixed feedback on our forums. “What on earth are these?” asked MON.

“It’s a no from me on both covers,” shared an underwhelmed WAVES.

“I love the second cover, but the first not so much. Looks like a Vogue Paris cover reject by David Sims,” mikel pointed out.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“The two covers are extremely reminiscent of Vogue Paris. One of Emmanuelle Alt’s fave models, the emulation of Alt’s fave photographer and one of Alt’s fave French fashion brands — the recipe for a Vogue Paris cover is all there,” agreed vogue28.

“The second cover is better than the first one, very Vogue Paris…” echoed VogueGirl8910.

“Nice to see her smiling and vibrant. The second cover is Edie being Edie and I’m all here for it,” approved annikad.

“Edie looks happy and I don’t even mind the typography used here. Glad to see Edie back on magazine covers,” declared nejtak.

“Yes and yes for me. Is this year gonna be the second coming of Edie? I hope so!” voiced oaklee91.

These Animal Printed Pieces Are a Surefire Way to Heat Up Summer

Summer brings to mind fresh floral patterns, pastels and crisp white dresses. But, as you’re probably well aware by now, we like to think outside the box. We’re the type that likes to carry a little fall into spring and a touch of summer into winter. So it should come as no surprise that we’re favoring summer animal prints.

We know, we know. It sounds like an oxymoron. But hear us out. While leopard, tiger, zebra, snake and even giraffe prints all seem suited to fall, they can actually work in the warmer months. Especially when teamed with season-appropriate fabrics, like silk, cotton and linen.

And you don’t have to go on a prolonged hunt to find summer-ready options. From a breezy two-piece set in an attention-grabbing cheetah design to a cool romper and even an ocelot-inspired jumpsuit, there are lots of pieces to covet. One quick suggestion: don’t rock animals from head to toe. You can match your top to your bottom, but if you throw in a fierce bucket hat and dad sandals, you’ve gone too far.

Scroll down to discover the best summer animal prints to snag right now.

Regina King Goes Completely Unretouched on Vogue Greece’s May 2021 Covers

Ever since Vogue Greece relaunched back in 2019, the magazine has been stronger than ever. We’ve enjoyed a whole series of stunning covers featuring Sasha Pivovarova, Victoria Beckham and Candice Huffine. And jumped for joy over the magnificent Joan Smalls, Candice Swanepoel and Irina Shayk covers which closed out 2020. Thaleia Karafyllidou breaks new ground with the publication’s latest starring Regina King for May 2021 sans Photoshop captured by photographer Sonia Szóstak for a pair of covers.

Vogue Greece May 2021 : Regina King by Sonia Szóstak

IMAGE: VOGUE.GR

Unfortunately, the covers failed to excite our forum members. “They don’t want to retouch but then literally hide her face? Bad optics, Vogue Greece,” voiced Ken Doll Jenner.

“‘OK guys let’s do an unretouched issue but also try our best to hide any natural flaws.’ Not that Regina has any flaws and she’s absolutely stunning, but I feel that was what was going through their heads when choosing the covers…” remarked GERGIN.

“I wish the second one didn’t have all that shadow because the colors and natural light look nice…” said Urban Stylin.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“The shadow [on the second cover] is literally devouring her face,” crmsnsnwflks pointed out.

“A positively surprising cover subject, especially for Vogue Greece. Can’t say that I’m all that impressed by the outcome, the first cover works but feels just slightly dull while the second one doesn’t work at all for me,” stated aracic.

MON couldn’t have agreed more: “Surprised and delighted with the choice, but disappointed with the outcome.”

“A pair of uneventful and unremarkable covers if you ask me and Regina’s cover of Marie Claire by Thomas Whiteside still remains the best a magazine has ever profiled her (along with WSJ. Magazine by Alexandra Leese),” added vogue28.

Stay Hydrated and Stylish With These Water Bottle Holders

Let’s face it: fashion is full of fads. Look at fanny packs, bike shorts and necklace bags. (Of course, the first two recently experienced a minor renaissance.) The latest kitschy item to blow up? Surprisingly, water bottle holders are all the rage.

Seems like every major fashion house has their own version(s). Fendi, for example, sent a raffia one connected to a large raffia tote down its Spring 2021 runway. The brand also has a few more colorful options. Jacquemus, Chloe, Marine Serre, Acne Studios, Burberry and Balenciaga have also hopped on the holder bandwagon.

A quick word of warning. Not all holders come with water bottles included. But that can actually be a good thing. Since most of us already own water bottles, you can save yourself some bucks by just indulging in the carrier. Just make sure to check the dimensions to ensure your current bottle will fit snugly.

Here are our favorite water bottle holders to carry everywhere.

Olivia Rodrigo, Zazie Beetz and Anya Taylor-Joy Are ELLE’s Rising Stars for May 2021

We haven’t been faced with a themed issue of ELLE in what feels like forever. We got pretty used to just about every other issue being either dedicated to Women in Hollywood, Women in Music or Women in TV. The American fashion glossy has been in our good graces of late impressing us with Hailey Bieber and Jennifer Lopez covers over recent months. For May 2021, we’re treated to the Rising Stars issue starring Olivia Rodrigo, Zazie Beetz and Anya Taylor-Joy. Shot by Petra Collins, Adrienne Raquel and Zoey Grossman respectively, the ladies each land solo covers.

Olivia’s cover was the first to drop. “I kind of like it. I don’t think the pose fits…but I like the styling. It’s something different than what ELLE usually puts out these days,” appreciated SLFC.

“She’s starting out, doesn’t deserve a cover yet,” voiced caioherrero.

“No idea who this is and I consider myself to be fairly clued up with pop culture. There is such a thing as too soon. What if her career fizzles out over the next 12 months? The angle is definitely not cover-worthy nor flattering…” said Benn98.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“Two songs into her career and she’s already booking covers?” asked aracic.

“I have no idea who she is and no desire really to know her. The cover shot is just meh. Could have been much better,” conspicuousconsumer chimed in.

“Zazie looks great! Wouldn’t mind seeing her on more covers to be honest!” declared annikad.

“Anya’s cover is the WINNER!” proclaimed DK92.

JPineapple is also in love with Anya’s cover: “At this point, Anya doesn’t deserve to share a month with anyone.”
