Throughout her tenure at Allure, Michelle Lee has certainly demonstrated a knack for securing cover stars most other editors would (shamefully) pass up. Lee brilliantly made history by inviting Billy Porter to cover the mag to kick-start 2020 and secured the likes of Sharon Stone, Naomi Osaka and Ashley Graham in 2019. Now, completely out of left field, she gives Allure‘s latest cover to the Dixie Chicks. Captured by photographer Liz Collins and styled by Patti Wilson, the country music group (comprised of Emily Strayer, Natalie Maines and Martie Maguire) pose together for the cover shot.

Despite the unexpected choice of cover stars, our forum members weren’t enthusiastic about the outcome. “Horrible cult-like styling,” stated MON the moment the cover dropped.
“More like clinic nurses?” wondered MDNA.
“Love the Dixie Chicks, but can’t help but feel they got a raw deal here. The shoot and cover arrangement aren’t great at all,” confessed honeycombchild.

“Genuinely have never heard of the Dixie Chicks (thought the woman in the middle was Robyn at first glance), but putting that aside, I’m still baffled over the outcome. While the cover is nothing offensive or unflattering, it just feels like a nonevent,” said vogue28.
Forum member tigerrouge wasn’t exactly jumping for joy: “Allure has decided to become an anti-beauty magazine. And in doing that, they’re wasting everyone’s time.”
“They’re not moving the needle in terms of aspirational beauty,” noted Benn98.
“I’m pretty sure anyone who was a fan of the Dixie Chicks in the 2000s has grown up,” GivenchyHomme pointed out.
