Grace Elizabeth and Anok Yai Save Vogue Japan’s Overly Altered January 2020 Cover

We’ve been eagerly anticipating Vogue Japan’s latest cover given the fact that the magazine allowed us to watch the cover shoot live. Skipping photographic duo Luigi & Iango this time around, Japanese Vogue commissioned Nick Knight to capture its January 2020 cover starring models-of-the-moment Grace Elizabeth and Anok Yai. The two beauties deliver a striking shot outfitted in looks from Christian Dior’s Fall 2019 Haute Couture collection courtesy of Sarajane Hoare.

The cover didn’t go over well with a few of our forum members, however. “What in the Avon airbrushed to death campaign is this?” asked Riseup.

“I was looking forward to this cover, but they just had to add this atrocious filter! I wonder who’s to blame: Nick Knight or the editor?” declared russianelf.

“What a disappointment! I expected so much from this duo and photographer. Vogue Japan really makes any photographer’s signature style void,” said apple.

But not everyone was left unsatisfied. “This is a rather gorgeous cover despite the over-the-top color filter,” proclaimed SLFC.

“Although it does indeed look like a beauty campaign, it is undeniably stunning,” MON chimed in.

“Despite the filter and all of the airbrushing, I like the cover. Both models look stunning and it works for Vogue Japan,” applauded aracic.

“What a gorgeous cover, they have really been on a roll this year. Great way to usher in 2020,” heralded Miss Dalloway.

Do you love or loathe the cover? Sound off and check out the accompanying cover story here.

The Ultimate Non-Ugly Christmas Sweater Roundup

A post shared by Kaia (@kaiagerber) on

Apart from downing a hot toddy (or three), our favorite way to bring the holiday warmth is a festive sweater. The way we see it, you’ve got two options this season. The first is to don one of the self-proclaimed, certifiably ugly Christmas sweaters. The second is to search out a bright, jolly — but still chic — knit that brings the sartorial holiday cheer in a more subtle manner. We’re partial to option two.

Luckily, haute holiday sweaters aren’t at all hard to find. Anything intarsia, Christmas (or Christmas-like) plaid, sparkle-embellished or — for those with especially pared-back tastes — just plain red or green will do, so long as it hangs nicely.

Click through the slideshow below for 16 shining examples. Wear yours to open presents, then all winter long. Each is fun but un-ironic; each takes personal offense to being called an “ugly” Christmas sweater.

10 Festive Lipsticks That Aren’t Any Shade of Red

We love the glamour and festive spirit of red lipstick. It’s as quintessentially Christmas as ugly sweaters and feel-good movies. And red lipstick is the gold standard when it comes to holiday beauty looks. If you’re someone who prefers to march to the beat of your own drummer boy, you’re probably craving something different. We feel you.

These unique lipsticks may not be red, but they still have plenty of holiday swagger. There are options whether you want to stay close to a Christmas color palette or want something totally distinct. And the finishes range from classic matte to full-on festive sparkle. FYI: All of these lip colors are brilliant picks for your New Year’s Eve makeup look.

Click through the gallery above to see 10 holiday lipstick alternatives.

There’s Now a Sofa Made of Dead Stock and Damaged Balenciaga Clothing

Fashion is slowly but surely infiltrating the world of interior design. Just look at Virgil Abloh’s recent IKEA collaboration. But Harry Nuriev just upped the ante.

The furniture designer used dead stock and damaged Balenciaga clothing to create every fashion lover’s dream sofa. It boasts an overstuffed recliner silhouette with the clothing clearly visible through its recycled clear vinyl covering. There’s even a matching pillow complete with the brand’s logo.

Wondering where you can buy this cool new couch? Well, don’t get too excited. It was only created for Design Miami/ so you won’t see them popping up at any furniture store.

Margot Robbie Outshines Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron on W’s Simply Stunning Cover

Sara Moonves is obviously on a mission to overhaul W and now we can’t wait to see each and every issue. Moonves kick-started her tenure with a set of Frank Ocean and Rosalía covers, gave us Kate Moss for the title’s annual art issue and now blesses us with a trio of Hollywood heavyweights. Nicole Kidman, Margot Robbie and Charlize Theron huddle together on W‘s latest photographed by Colin Dodgson and styled by Moonves herself for the occasion.

Members of our forums loved the Bombshell stars’ cover. “Haven’t seen such a fabulous cover by W in a looooooooooooong time!” exclaimed GERGIN.

“Fantastic cover, they all look super stunning, but I could stare at Margot for hours! She’s gorgeous,” wrote aracic.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“Surprisingly stunning. They all are really beautiful and photogenic, but Margot is out of this world, I can’t take my eyes off of her,” echoed Melancholybaby.

Fiercification felt the same way: “The cover is a great image, mainly due to Margot looking sensational.”

“Oh my, was not expecting something so simple and gorgeous from W!” praised KINGofVERSAILLES.

“I love the simplicity of this,” caioherrero chimed in.

In total agreement over the outcome was [Piece Of Me]. “This is marvelous. Such a powerful trio and I am very glad W gave them a cover together instead of multiple covers.”

Be sure to check out the accompanying cover feature and share your thoughts here.

Hoodies Are the Street Style Secret to Winter Layering

Hoodies are street style winners.

Instant hooded coat; Image: Imaxtree

There’s a reason we admire the street style set. Members of the fashion elite have an uncanny ability to take an item that was once dismissed as tacky and make it suddenly relevant again. Who would have imagined that fanny packs, neon and bike shorts would be must-haves? You can also add hoodies to that ever-growing list.

Add a hoodie to extend the life of your fall jacket.

Hoodies let you hold on to fall jackets a little longer; Image: Imaxtree

Just like turtlenecks, hooded sweatshirts have become key layering pieces during fashion week, especially the fall shows in February. Looking to take that kimono-style wrap jacket into winter? Just layer a hoodie underneath. Longing to participate in the off-the-shoulders jacket trend but too practical to expose yourself to the cold? Slipping on a hoodie makes the trend blizzard-appropriate. Wish your fave winter coat came with a warm hood? Work in a hoodie for instant gratification.

Secure all those layers with a belt bag.

Match your hoodie to your belt bag for extra credit; Image: Imaxtree

While solid color hoodies are frequently favored on the streets, there’s also room for colorblocking, graphic prints, tie-dye, laces and structured necklines. There are even wool and teddy versions you can rock as outerwear (which presents a whole new range of styling opportunities). And designers have gotten in on the action with Fendi, Erdem, Prada and Dries Van Noten all supplying high-end options.

From cropped to oversized, find your perfect fit in the slideshow below.

Karlie Kloss Serves Vintage Glamour on Vogue Spain’s December 2019 Cover

Glamour is always a good idea, especially right before the holiday season really gets going and Vogue Spain obviously heard our pleas for some high fashion loud and clear with the unveiling of its December 2019 installment starring Karlie Kloss. We’ve come to rely on Karlie a great deal over the years since she consistently dazzles on covers shot by various photographers and she delivers yet again before the lens of Txema Yeste. Styled by Juan Cebrian, the supermodel strikes a pose in Carolina Herrera for the vintage-inspired cover shot, helping the magazine close out 2019 on a high note.

Needless to say, members of our forums were all for it. “Fantastic to see Karlie doing the high-fashion modeling that she excels at. I’ve missed seeing her do this type of work,” wrote tigerrouge.

“This feels very Vogue Italia during their good old days. I’m happy to see Karlie. It’s a beautiful cover,” proclaimed Valentine27.

“Cannot fault a single thing here,” declared Benn98.

“Wow! Karlie is a classic beauty and she looks absolutely perfect here,” raved jorgepalomo.

Sharing the same enthusiasm for the cover was aracic: “Karlie’s best cover in a long time! She looks absolutely stunning here, the styling is on point, everything is on point!”

GivenchyHomme felt exactly the same way. “I love this version of Karlie. The girl next door shtick is so fake and unappealing. High fashion is where she truly shines. She looks very elegant and sophisticated.”

“Stunning cover! Karlie really does look amazing with this type of styling and modeling,” echoed FashionMuseDior.

“I haven’t seen a good cover like this from Vogue Spain in years,” exclaimed Bertrando3.

Karlie’s cover story is a total must-see. Check it out and join the conversation here.

Ceramides Are Your Best Bet to Beat All Your Winter Skin Care Woes

It’s that time of the year when you religiously stock up on all the essentials you need to tackle winter skin. Because no matter how healthy your skin is, it still needs constant hydration and nourishment. One way to protect your skin from all the dryness, irritation and itchiness the season brings is to look for skin care products boasting ceramides.

What are ceramides?

Ceramides are lipids that help your skin hold on to moisture while helping form its protective barrier. If your levels are off, your skin suffers. While your skin naturally produces ceramides, there are things that can strip them away. We’re talking certain soaps (and hot water) and environmental aggressors.

What are the best skin care products featuring ceramides?

You want to look for products with several types of ceramides to help get your ratio back where it should be. The best options are real multitaskers, tackling everything from the visible signs of aging to repairing damaged skin cells via vitamin C.

Now that you know what ceramides can do for you, it’s time to get shopping. Check out the slideshow above for the best ceramide-infused skin care picks to keep your skin healthy all winter long.

Scrunchies Are Back and Bigger Than Ever

Kitsch Dinner Scrunchie in Cream

Image: Courtesy of Kitsch

We’ve already acknowledged embraced the return of the scrunchie. We even put together a whole post about totally rad hairstyles featuring the once taboo hair accessory. But Kitsch just took things to another level.

The hair brand is now selling larger-than-life scrunchies in three shades: red, cream and black. They’re made of semi-sheer chiffon and dubbed the Dinner Scrunchie because, well, each one is just as big as a dinner plate (we’re talking 8 inches in diameter). Use them to keep your low bun secure or to top off a top knot. Your call.

The ginormous scrunchies cost $14 apiece or you can score all three for just $38.

Zendaya Stars on Allure’s ‘Ridiculous’ Double Holiday Cover

Michelle Lee hasn’t exactly made us want to race down to the newsstand for Allure over the last 12 months, but she has been successful when it comes to recruiting a whole host of A-list faces to front the beauty-focused title. In 2019, we’ve been treated to covers featuring Serena Williams, Kendall Jenner, Gemma Chan, Adut Akech, Emilia Clarke, Ashley Graham, Naomi Osaka, Anne Hathaway, Lady Gaga and Sharon Stone. Now it’s Zendaya’s turn as the actress closes out the year on Allure‘s double December/January offering. Fresh from the cover of ELLE, the Euphoria star poses for photographer Miguel Reveriego wearing a look from her Tommy x Zendaya Fall 2019 collection picked by Law Roach.

Allure December 2019/January 2020 : Zendaya by Miguel Reveriego

IMAGE: ALLURE.COM

The cover immediately sparked fierce debate among our forum members. “Zendaya is gorgeous and interesting enough to not need any gimmick of theirs. She doesn’t deserve this,” called out MON.

“How do magazines always make such a beautiful young woman look so desperately bad? Is there a story line to it? I need answers. And Zendaya needs justice!” declared aracic.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“Another month (or two) where Allure shies away from the job of making its cover models look good, even though ‘looking good’ is the lifeblood of the beauty industry,” tigerrouge chimed in.

“That logo ruins the picture,” added jorgepalomo.

Benn98 wasn’t a fan: “Let’s not get carried away here — she’s a former Disney star selling Lancôme and Tommy Hilfiger. Another forgettable cover for Allure.”

Forum member jal718 was quick to declare the cover “ridiculous.”

All the December 2019 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated

It’s hard to believe that those jumbo hats that have been flooding Instagram and glossy magazine covers for over a year now are still going strong. In fact, there were a surprising number of hats featured on December glossy covers — and not the kinds that do well come winter winds. As for holiday cheer, the December covers were more or less evenly split between those that showed no signs and those that went all out with feathers, sequins and bold makeup. Unfortunately, diversity was close to zero this month showing that no matter how the media may spin it, another year has gone by and very little has changed.

Check out the slideshow above for a look at the best and worst December 2019 covers.

Rihanna Appoints Normani as Savage x Fenty’s First Global Ambassador

Image: Courtesy of Savage X Fenty

After a showstopping performance at Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty runway show back in September, Normani has a deep connection with the size-inclusive lingerie brand. So it makes sense that the former Fifth Harmony member was picked as the line’s first-ever brand ambassador.

Her first duty? Starring in the brand’s red hot holiday campaign. The singer/dancer dazzles in (mostly) red lingerie and reveals her favorite pieces from the collection.

“I think that being a part of Savage x Fenty is an amazing opportunity for me to show women that I’m also here for them too,” Normani told Vogue. “I just love how inclusive [the brand] is and how it gives everybody the opportunity to feel sexy and beautiful and empowered — which is everything that I stand for as well. I thought it would be the perfect partnership.”

You can check out her new campaign and shop her picks here.

RuPaul and Vanity Fair Give Us the Festive and Glamorous Holiday Cover We Deserve

It’s not every month our newsstand dreams become reality so we’re super excited to see none other than RuPaul grace the cover of Vanity Fair. Radhika Jones hasn’t exactly been in our forum members’ good graces this year having churned out many questionable covers, but redeems herself with the title’s holiday edition. Following notable appearances in Vogue back in May and on the cover of Interview for September, Ru strikes a pose in a Swarovski crystal-encrusted bodysuit before the lens of famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

“MOTHER! Absolutely fantastic, brilliant, beautiful, looks like Linda Evangelista, everything about it is perfect!” applauded aracic.

“Finally the glamour and festive spirit I’ve been missing on covers this month!” raved KINGofVERSAILLES.

“Finally! I was waiting for a moment like this. Miss RuPaul gets the cover she rightfully deserves!” heralded FashionMuseDior.

Sharing the same level of enthusiasm was MON: “Representation matters. Bravo, Radhika!”

“While RuPaul is pretty well known in this day and age, this Vanity Fair cover is still a big deal as it is the pinnacle of mainstream media acknowledgment. I am now hopeful that Vanity Fair might find its footing again in the upcoming decade,” praised dodencebt.

“It’s over the top but chic and tasteful at the same time, love it,” raved Nymphaea.

“I mean, this just makes me HAPPY!” said Miss Dalloway.

We’ll race you down to the newsstand for this one. See more from Ru’s cover shoot and join the conversation here.

Victoria Beckham’s Vogue Poland December 2019 Cover May Give You a Sense of Déjà Vu

Victoria Beckham is certainly no stranger to the cover of Vogue and with each year that passes, we all know Victoria will crop up on at least two international editions of the magazine. Take 2018 for example, when Victoria fronted Vogue Spain, Vogue Australia and British Vogue. Following a recent stint on Vogue Germany, the designer and beauty mogul just popped up on the cover of Vogue Poland for December 2019. Photographed by Alexi Lubomirski and styled by Daniela Agnelli, Victoria showcases a look from one of her own collections (natch) in the elegant and refined cover shot.

But for our forum members, it’s just more of the same old thing. “Just your classic Victoria Beckham Vogue cover, nothing exciting, but it’s pretty so it works, I guess,” said aracic the moment the cover dropped.

“A perfectly inoffensive cover, very typical of a Victoria Beckham appearance on Vogue. Yet it feels random for Vogue Poland, who I feel like is all over the place in terms of direction month after month,” critiqued vogue28.

“What the hell Vogue Poland? What the absolute hell are you thinking?” asked SLFC.

“The cover just doesn’t work in any way,” said slayage.

Members of our forums began to voice how the cover seemed better suited to other fashion titles. “Hello Harper’s Bazaar U.K.,” commented KissMiss.

Benn98 felt the same way: “I see it as well and, come to think of it, so was last month’s cover shot by Mary McCartney. Is this their new direction? The artsy covers didn’t perform well on newsstands? The word ‘no’ doesn’t exist in this woman’s vocabulary. She’d turn up at the opening of an envelope just to get a Vogue cover.”

“Very Australian Vogue,” MON pointed out.

Jennifer Lopez Is Coach’s Newest Global Ambassador

View this post on Instagram

Get ready to be swept away. #JLo is the new face of Coach. More to come in 2020 #CoachxJLo #CoachNY : @benjaminrosser

A post shared by Coach (@coach) on

Jennifer Lopez has had a pretty busy 2019. From her epic turn on the Versace catwalk to receiving the CFDA Fashion Awards icon honor to starring in the film Hustlers and possibly earning an Oscar nomination, J.Lo has been on fire. And it looks like 2020 will be just as monumental since the multi-hyphenate was just named Coach’s latest global ambassador.

Starting in Spring 2020, Jennifer will appear in the luxury label’s campaigns. The casting makes total sense since the brand is no stranger to celeb ambassadors — Michael B. Jordan, Selena Gomez and Yara Shahidi have all used their star power to promote the fashion house. (Selena even designed clothes and bags for the brand.)

So why add Jennifer to such a distinguished list? “Jennifer is so authentic. She’s determined and she’s an original who has followed her own path to do things her own way — she embodies the attitude of Coach,” Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers declared on Instagram.

We wonder if Jennifer will sneak in a Coach look for her halftime performance at the Super Bowl.
