All the November 2020 Magazine Covers We Loved and Hated

There’s lots to love when it comes to November 2020 magazine covers. First and foremost, there’s plenty of diversity. And not just in terms of race. We’re blessed with a range of plus-size, transgender and over-50 models. Secondly, the styling is pretty stellar. Not to mention all the great beauty looks.

So which covers really shine? Gal Gadot stuns on Vanity Fair. Sharon Stone impresses with a pair of striking Vogue Greece covers. Plus, Indya Moore brings high glamour to Vogue Spain.

Which ones miss the mark? While we applaud Cosmopolitan’s selection of Barbie Ferreira as cover star, the styling is a bit underwhelming. Raquel Zimmermann gives good face on Vogue Germany, but the fashion is lacking. There are also several awkward poses that detract from what could have been great covers.

Discover which November 2020 magazine covers stand out for all the right and wrong reasons in the slideshow above.

15 Reasons You Should Suit Up This Season

Street style is one of the highlights of fashion week. So we weren’t that shocked to see the fashion faithful still stepping out for Spring 2021. From New York to Paris, the best dressed attendees all had one thing in common: suits. Whether they were the three-piece variety or simply teamed with a T-shirt, street style suits were the biggest takeaway of the season.

So what qualifies as a street style-worthy suit? The slouchier, the better. Styling oversized blazers with roomy trousers is the preferred silhouette. Save the stuffy takes for the office or Zoom calls.

Now that doesn’t mean you can’t work in some more tailored pieces. If you like the look of a structured jacket, just wear it unbuttoned. Or balance out straight-leg slacks with a boxy blazer.

While we’re really feeling neutrals right now, don’t be afraid to rock more colorful pairings. Think (dusty) pink, a deep green or even burgundy.

See the slideshow above for the best street style suits of the season.

Rianne Van Rompaey Returns to the Cover of Vogue Paris for November 2020

Ever since Emmanuelle Alt took over the helm of Vogue Paris back in 2011, she’s had a select group of revolving cover stars on speed dial. Rianne Van Rompaey is definitely one of them and exactly three years after her debut and straight after her last appearance just last month, the Dutch beauty is back on the French fashion bible’s front cover. The now six-time Vogue Paris cover star graces the November 2020 issue with a bold close-up shot featuring vivid eye makeup (complete with dolphins) photographed by Mikael Jansson.

The cover immediately caught the attention of our forum members. “I love it. The more Rianne the better!” declared mikel.

“Seeing Rianne in and on Vogue Paris so often makes me happy. She’s a real model with an amazing personality and character,” said anlabe32.

“I gotta say I really like the cover, we’re living in weird times and I love that we have a model with dolphins on her face and flowers on her head,” added KateTheGreatest.

“I love Rianne and her work so I’ll never be bothered about her getting another cover. That being said, I do not like this image because it’s honestly just unflattering. A waste of Rianne in this case,” admitted Nomar.

Valentine27 shared the same sentiment: “I’m not bothered at seeing Rianne again. She’s a great model, but I find this cover to be quite unappealing. Really not feeling it…”

“This is very unappealing and simply doesn’t suit a November issue and feels more appropriate for summer, if you ask me. The makeup with the addition of the dolphins feels extremely juvenile,” critiqued vogue28.

“A very unfortunate shot for the cover and kind of tired of Rianne at this point. She is good and beautiful, but there are many other models that are just as good and beautiful,” dontbeadrag chimed in.

Bakuchiol Is the Kinder, Gentler Way to Treat Almost All Your Skin Care Woes

Retinol is heralded as the way to combat wrinkles and fine lines. But if your skin is sensitive, it’ll treat them while freaking out your complexion. Not exactly ideal. The solution? Skip retinol products and pick up ones boasting bakuchiol instead.

The plant-based ingredient is retinol’s less irritating cousin. You get the same collagen-promoting, fine line-reducing benefits without any redness or dryness. In addition to its anti-aging prowess, the skin care savior contains antioxidants. It even has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. (Which is why you’ll find it in acne treatments.)

Bakuchiol keeps adding to its skin care résumé. Now you can find it in moisturizers, face oils, eye creams, cleansers and more. But not all bakuchiol skin care products are worth your money.

So we went ahead and rounded up the best of the bunch in the slideshow above.

From Jackets to Jewelry, Everything’s Coming Up Quilted

Sometimes it takes a while for a trend to really catch on. By now you’re familiar with quilted jackets, but they actually first started picking up steam back in the fall of 2018. An offshoot of the still trending puffer obsession, quilted coats were spotted on almost every single Fall 2020 runway.

But designers didn’t just stop at jackets. Skirts, pants and accessories also received the quilted treatment. Not that we’re complaining. There’s something so cozy about padded accents this time of year.

While there are plenty of coat options out there, other categories are beginning to take off. Our favorites? Jewelry, gloves and bucket hats. (You didn’t think the latter was going away, did you?)

Scroll through the slideshow above to get your quilt on.

V Magazine Encourages Readers to Vote With Its Winter 2020 Covers

V Magazine is definitely back on our radar for all the right reasons. Over recent months, the publication has given us a supermodel spectacular for Summer 2020 and Laura Harrier for Fall 2020. Now the mag is encouraging its U.S. readers to vote with the unveiling of its Winter 2020 edition. The series of black and white covers feature Bella Hadid, Chris Evans, Halsey, Jaden Smith, Janaya Future Khan, Janelle Monáe, Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore, Mariah Carey, Megan Rapinoe, Paperboy Prince and Taylor Swift all profiled by Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

As usual with multi-covers, only a few really stand out. “Even though Bella will never be my favorite, and she is by no means in any way a thought leader, hers is quite a gorgeous cover,” confessed mikel.

“There’s no denying that black and white portraits are Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s superpower and these are beautiful. The shots of Jennifer Lawrence, Julianne Moore and Bella Hadid are my favorites,” voiced vavavinny.

“Wow, Bella Hadid’s cover is gorgeous and the only one if any of these I’ll be purchasing,” shared Ghesquiere32.

“Bella’s cover looks nice and I like how they cleverly turned their logo into the word vote,” Urban Stylin chimed in.

Also liking what they saw was aracic: “Such a great set of covers with so many great stars (and many personal faves)…”

“My favorite is Janelle Monáe, she really uplifts the whole mood, followed by Bella, Chris and Mariah,” commented FashionMuseDior.

Not everyone was happy with the covers, though. “I’m sorry, half these people are not ‘thought leaders’ and make this cringe-worthy,” called out BlueRuin.

“Most of these people are not who I would consider thought leaders,” agreed Mercury6181.

Luxe Loafers to Suit Every Mood and Outfit

Everyone may be focused on boots right now, but we’ve always had a soft spot for loafers. Especially this time of year. Why? They’re one of the easiest and most sophisticated ways to polish off a look. Even sweatsuits can be turned up a notch. While the fancy footwear has been around for eons, the best Fall 2020 loafers offer something different.

This season loafers are all about the bling. That’s because necklace-like accents are trending big time. (Perhaps in response to all the chunky chain energy out there.) Another upgrade? Platforms. Whether you’re looking for a little lift or want to make a statement with lug soles, there’s a pair for you.

It’s totally acceptable to wear your loafers with everything and everywhere. They work great with a sweater and blue jeans combo. You can also team them with skirt suits or seasonally-appropriate maxi dresses.

Find your new pair(s) of Fall 2020 loafers in the slideshow above.

All the Spooky, Scary and Stunning Halloween Beauty Inspiration the Runways Have to Offer

Images: Imaxtree

Anyone in search of Halloween beauty inspiration knows to check out Instagram. Or watch classic Halloween movies. But the runways are another great source of spooky inspo. After all, catwalks feature larger-than-life beauty looks that simply scream Halloween.

Halloween-appropriate runway looks are usually less gory and FX-heavy than the stuff on social media. Which is good if you’re at all squeamish. Halloween is definitely different this year, but that doesn’t mean you can’t go all out. Take a cue from recent runways and dress up as a historical figure. Or add a little shine to transform yourself into everything from a robot to a disco diva. Want to keep things simple? Apply some eye-catching eye makeup. From frosted lids to devilish horns, go ahead and have fun with it. It’s also great for Zoom gatherings since no one will see your full costume anyway.

Another bonus? Many runway beauty looks aren’t overly complicated. So you can recreate them fairly quickly. That way everyone can get to the (virtual) Halloween party on time. On the flip side, if you’re willing to invest some time you can go the extra mile a la Heidi Klum.

Click through the slideshow to see the runway beauty looks that’ll help you win Halloween.

Indya Moore Becomes Vogue Spain’s First-Ever Transgender Cover Star

The fashion industry is finally getting the memo on Indya Moore. In the last three months alone, we’ve witnessed the American beauty take to the covers of Vogue Italia and Vogue India. Already a firm favorite of Nicolas Ghesquière at Louis Vuitton, Indya now graces Vogue Spain’s latest becoming the publication’s first-ever transgender cover star. On the Spanish fashion bible’s November 2020 cover, Indya poses wearing a Bottega Veneta dress, gloves from Wing & Weft, Schiaparelli earrings and a Lizzie Fortunato bracelet (all courtesy of Ian Bradley) for the Thomas Whiteside-shot image.

Members of our forums were divided over the outcome. “This is just so beautiful in so many ways. I love to see them finally getting the recognition they truly deserve in the fashion world,” praised slayage.

“Amazing cover!” applauded versustito.

“Much prefer this over those Vogue India and Vogue Italia covers and despite the color and use of the gloves, I find this to be a pretty arresting cover, which I’m sure will stand out on newsstands. Indya’s expressions are very one-note, but Thomas Whiteside has done them justice here!” heralded vogue28.

[ Not a tFS forum member yet? Click here to join! ]

“Thomas Whiteside has been doing great work for Vogue Spain, but this doesn’t do it for me. Too angular, it’s almost distracting. Terrible styling. Happy for Indya, this is really their moment! Wish I liked the cover more,” said Benn98.

Miss Dalloway wasn’t exactly jumping for joy, either. “Why so many bad shots of them on covers though? Indya can photograph like a dream, but I’ve yet to see a good cover shot! Their face here is awful, eyes are dead, the pose is ridiculous, the styling shameful. NOTHING works…”

“This is a no for me. I don’t get why Vogue Spain chose the ‘ooh, I have a headache’ image as a cover,” Ken Doll Jenner chimed in.

“I love that it’s Indya and there are much better editorial shots inside. That’s all I’m going to say,” added dodencebt.

13 Stunning Shoulder Duster Earrings to Wear With Your Favorite Face Masks

Dangling earrings have been the statement bauble of choice for a while now. Blame it on the advent of off-the-shoulder mania. Along with those skin-baring tops and dresses came the need to fill the space between — and what better way than with a pair of swingy jewels? From florals to ball drops, ultra long shoulder duster earrings are the perfect counterpoint to face masks.

The Fall 2020 runways were full of ornate, lengthy earrings. Chloe offered sculptural sets, while Etro gave us Western-inspired clip on options. Sure, statement-making earrings are hardly new, but brands are going to great lengths, literally, to get your attention. Everyone from Mango to Zara has shoulder duster offerings that fill the void between your ears and your clavicle — or just about. The best part is they work just as well with a sleek turtleneck as they do with more revealing items so you need only slip on a pair for an instant outfit-making effect. Yes, please.

If you’re up for taking your jewelry game to the next level, click through the slideshow above.

Anok Yai, Yasmin Le Bon and Others Appear in Fendi’s Fabulous Fall 2020 Campaign

The last Fendi advertising campaign to command our attention came courtesy of Karl Lagerfeld. (The Spring 2020 ads clearly failed to generate any real buzz.) Now the Italian fashion house sets our forums ablaze with its Fall 2020 campaign. Nick Knight captures Anok Yai, Florence, Fran Summers, Maggie Cheng along with Yasmin Le Bon posing before an eye-catching backdrop while showcasing the sophisticated collection.

The campaign is definitely a hit on our forums. “Gorgeous campaign!” declared an obviously impressed WAVES.

“Impressive! The images are striking, casting is great…it’s been a while since Fendi had a strong campaign like this,” said aracic.

YohjiAddict is also a fan: “I love how much emphasis is placed on the models’ cheekbones and the gold hardware/jewelry, they all glisten in such a seductive manner.”

“Finally, Knight showing he is still capable of producing a good campaign,” agreed avonlea002.

“All the girls look great and so strong. Love the photography!” raved guimon.

“I am utterly obsessed, feel like it’s the best advertising campaign I’ve seen throughout all of 2020. I was instantly sold when I saw Anok Yai’s shot, love the commanding pose, the colors and Nick Knight’s lighting — then came the flawless Yasmin Le Bon! What a feast for the eyes,” voiced vogue28.

“I am floored! A strike to my head, such glamour and luxury in this campaign!” applauded dontbeadrag.

Fall Nail Art Inspo Straight From the Runways

We’re always willing to update our look. For fall, we’re all about slipping out of our sweats and dressing up a little. When it comes to makeup, we’ve been busy testing out the latest and greatest eyeshadow palettes. Now it’s time to switch things up when it comes to our nails. So we’re revisiting some of the top Fall 2020 nail art for inspo.

Whether you favor something more moody or want to make your digits shine, the Fall 2020 runways have you (and your nails) covered. Negative space manis are always an option. But don’t discount accent or alternating nails.

Here are our favorite Fall 2020 nail art looks we’re experimenting with this season.

Image: Imaxtree

Try a traditional deep red mani with a twist. Or rather a curve. It’s like playing peekaboo with polish.

Fall 2020 nail art

Save time and polish by only painting every other nail yellow. Keep things seasonally appropriate by choosing a darker shade.

Fall 2020 nail art

Simply swipe on silver streaks for a striking nail look. It’s OK if not all the streaks are the same width.

Fall 2020 nail art

Make waves by attaching black crystals across each nail and down just one side.

Sheer pink nails may not exactly scream fall. But add in crystal accents and you’ve got a nail art look you can flaunt straight through winter.

Tired of plain ol’ leopard print nails? Go a more abstract route by stretching out those spots.

Use an accent nail on each hand to show love for your favorite brand or that special someone.

Who needs jewelry with a mani like this? Paint your nails a shiny black shade, then add flashy silver crescents about halfway down each nail.
