32 Eco-Fashion Brands We’re Obsessed With

Eco-friendly clothing has come a long way from those foggy, hippie-dippie days filled with crunchy, hemp sandals and patchouli-smelling maxis. In fact, it’s stepped into prime time, thanks to brands like Kowtow and Amour Vert that focus on style as much as sustainability. In honor of Earth Month, we’re sharing our 32 favorite sustainable fashion brands that get it right, from ready-to-wear and handbags to jewelry and shoes. Because, let’s face it, we are what we wear.

Kate Moss Celebrates Her 40th Appearance on British Vogue With Three Different Covers

A British supermodel on the cover of a British fashion magazine should be a no-brainer, right? Especially when it’s Kate Moss, who just landed her 40th cover of British Vogue (and the first under Edward Enninful’s tenure). To celebrate, Enninful spared no expense, hiring three different photographers—Jamie Hawkesworth, Mikael Jansson and Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin—to shoot Moss for three collectible covers.

According to some of our forum members, the covers didn’t exactly break ground. “A very hard pass on these Moss covers. Edward, you were doing so well!” sighed Velasco.

“These are SO bad. All of them look somewhat unfinished and almost like some provincial edition’s reprints. The typography is so off too. You see far better work in The Cover Challenge Thread! It’s shocking someone gets paid for this art direction,” complained Royal-Galliano.

“Kate again? How many times? GROUNDBREAKING!” caioherrero said.

Also not thrilled was Miss Dalloway: “This is such a letdown, and a step backwards for Edward. I actually like Kate, but not a single cover of this looks fresh, or appealing! I mean this looks like [Alexandra] Shulman’s work to me, insipid, and a non-event!”

Morgane07 felt the same way, writing, “Even as a big Moss fan I don’t like any of them. She doesn’t look good at all, I don’t get it, she looks better in candids or red carpets. They don’t seem to know how to use Photoshop at all. Easily her worst covers!”

“Sometimes I think people keep using Kate because she’s been around forever, not because she’s doing anything worthwhile. These covers aren’t worth it. The first is ‘OK’, the other two are grotesque,” slammed dfl-001.

But not everyone was disappointed. “I will be in the minority here, but always count me in for Kate Moss!” cheered dontbeadrag.

“Thrilled to see Kate on Vogue again, she’s such a legend and I can’t help but love her,” added LastNight.

“I want all three covers! The queen has finally appeared on Edward’s Vogue and I am so so so excited!” KateIsGr8 wrote.

Bella Hadid Poses Alongside Greek Antiquities for Vogue Greece’s Stunning Relaunch Covers

Ever since Condé Nast announced back in August that it was relaunching Vogue Greece, our forums have been waiting in suspense for the magazine’s comeback. The wait is finally over, and after a seven-year absence Greek Vogue has returned to newsstands — better and stronger than ever.

This year is looking pretty good for print, with the debut of Vogue Hong Kong just last month while 2018 saw the inauguration of both Vogue Poland and Vogue Czechoslovakia. Who better than Bella Hadid to grace the magazine’s relaunch issue? After all, she knows her way around  a magazine cover shoot or two, is one of the industry’s most sought-after models and looks undeniably remarkable alongside the Greek antiquities in the two celebratory cover images for April 2019, shot by Txema Yeste.

The covers sparked great interest on our forums. “This is stunning! This is how you do it. I see the references, the symbolism of the angle. Lovely,” admired MON.

“Absolutely gorgeous! Perfectly showing elements of Greek heritage but in a modern way. Bravo Greek Vogue, Fantastic start for a relaunch!” Blayne266 applauded.

“A nice debut for Vogue Greece! I can’t get enough of the one with the closeup of Bella’s face,” said slayage.

Another admirer of the outcome was forum member russianelf: “Absolutely gorgeous! Conceptual, but glamorous all the same. Bravo, great debut!”

Melancholybaby made his feelings clear too, writing, “Really nice result. I’m not crazy on how hung up Greek people are with our heritage, but I understand why they wanted to play it up for the debut issue, give it an identity/flavor that’s distinctly Greek.”

“This is actually wonderful. So sick of the Hadid sisters, my god, but it works here. Still I hope they plan to support their own talent, and celebrate their culture like Vogue Arabia does so well, voiced Miss Dalloway.

“Bella looks stunning! This is how you do a debut issue,” commended jorgepalomo.

New York City May Ban Fur Sales Under New Bill

The fur era is starting to decline and soon it may end altogether. In the past few years, faux fur has started to rise in popularity as a suitable substitute for fur. Designers and brands such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Diane von Furstenberg and Chanel have recently prohibited the use of fur for their products. And now, cities are taking matters into their own hands. New York City Council speaker Corey Johnson proposed legislation that will ban all fur apparel sales in New York City. The legislation was co-sponsored by Councilman Mark Levine of Manhattan and Fernando Cabrera of the Bronx and will be introduced during the council’s general meeting on Thursday.

New York City has the largest market for fur in the United States. There are more than 130 fur businesses — most of them family-owned with more than 1,100 employees, according to NY Post. Johnson oversees the garments district, which is why people were appalled when news of a potential ban on fur broke. The passing of the legislation would cause those companies to go out of business and leave thousands unemployed, said people critical of the bill.

However, Johnson is standing firm in his belief stating that it is inhumane to kill animals for the sake of vanity. He notes, “Michael Kors doesn’t use fur. Donatella Versace doesn’t use fur. Diane von Furstenberg doesn’t use fur. The industry has moved away from fur because it’s cruel and inhumane.”

The fur ban would implement a $500 to $1500 fine on stores and businesses violating the legislation unless the item is secondhand or has been made prior to the passing of the ban. There may also be an exception for religious garments such as Orthodox Jewish fur hats.

There are quite a number of potential setbacks, especially with regards to unemployment; however, New York City would not be the first to implement a fur ban. Los Angeles successfully banned the sale and manufacturing of fur in September 2018.
