Rihanna Gives Vogue Australia Its Best Cover in Ages

Magazines don’t have to do much to impress our forums. Just give us Rihanna and we’re sold. The global superstar has an extremely impressive track record on some of our favorite fashion glossies, including Allure, British Vogue, American Vogue, British ELLE — the list is endless.

You may find it hard to believe that Vogue Australia’s never had the pleasure, but the 11-time Vogue cover girl is finally making her long-awaited debut on the Aussie fashion bible for May 2019 (better late than never, right?). Photographed by Josh Olins and styled by Christine Centenera, Rihanna gives us a sublime cover image wearing an eclectic mix of Savage x Fenty (obvs) and Raf Simons.

Needless to say, our forum members were immediate fans. “I think this is the first good thing that I’ve seen from Vogue Australia,” declared Perickles.

“Finally on Vogue Australia! And it slays, no shock,” chimed in SpeakThatJDunn.

“Love it! I love the pose, I love the styling, the attitude and most positive of all — this is Vogue Australia’s best cover in a long time,” applauded dodencebt.

“This is the best cover from Vogue Australia since December. Exquisite and interesting to look at. Rihanna is really on a roll,” echoed slayage.

Miss Dalloway liked what she saw, too, commenting, “Love the cover, so striking. Vogue Australia is a real contender, I like how they take such image famous women and push them a bit without having them lose their essence. Centenera is doing great styling on these jobs, I love it here.”

“I like when Vogue Australia uses vibrant colors like this. Rihanna looks stunning, very cool styling. Their best cover in AGES,” raved HeatherAnne.

Halima Aden Makes Waves as the First Muslim Model to Wear a Hijab in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue

Model Halima Aden is once again breaking down barriers. She’s already covered magazines and graced the runways of Max Mara, LaQuan Smith and Christian Cowan. And Aden just marked another milestone as the first hijab-wearing model featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue.

The Yu Tsai-led photoshoot was held in Kenya where Aden was born into a refugee camp. Wearing custom designed burkinis (one from No Ka’Oi, the other Cynthia Rowley), Aden saw the photoshoot as an opportunity to represent the Somali, Muslim and refugee communities.

SI Swimsuit has been at the forefront of changing the narrative and conversation on social issues and preconceived notions. I’m hoping this specific feature will open doors up for my Somali community, Muslim community, refugee community and any other community that can relate to being different,” said Aden. “This feature is proving that a fully covered hijab wearing model can confidently stand alongside a beautiful woman in a revealing bikini and together they can celebrate one another, cheer each other on, and champion each other’s successes.”

Sports Illustrated featured Aden in order to share her incredible story and encourage inclusivity. “Having Halima as a part of SI Swimsuit is yet another example of the range and scope of the type of beauty that exists. Her participation and inclusion further highlights the brand’s commitment and belief in supporting women to own who they are and what makes them unique and ultimately reaffirms what our messaging has been, that YOU are worthy,” said MJ Day, editor of SI Swimsuit.

Mark your calendars for May 8 to grab a copy of the groundbreaking issue.

These Non-Fruity Fragrances Are the Epitome of Summer

Finding our summer scent is something we all struggle with. Should we go with something citrusy or a floral base with woodier notes? Or, do cleaner coconut and icy smells work better?

Lemon patchouli and freesia may not be your thing if you’re looking for a minimal-yet-polished fragrance. A great way to pick a scent is to start with simpler bases closer to your natural scent. This gives you a wider palette for experimenting.

So if you’ve vowed to ditch your usual fruity perfume this year, have a look at these fresh and well-curated scents perfect for summer.
