After More Than 20 Years, Shalom Harlow Is Back on the Cover of Vogue Italia for December 2018

Vogue Italia hasn’t been our favorite fashion magazine this year, thanks to a host of questionable covers featuring the likes of Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber, Madonna, Vittoria Ceretti and last month’s awful Freja Beha Erichsen offering. To close out 2018, the Italian fashion bible has pulled out all the stops with the triumphant return of Shalom Harlow. After a long fashion hiatus, the legendary 90s supermodel/actress first appeared this fall, closing out Versace’s Spring 2019 runway, and is now back on the cover of Italian Vogue — two decades after her last. Shot by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, Shalom reclines across the studio floor wearing a look from Hedi Slimane’s debut Celine collection, selected by stylist the Patti Wilson.

Yet for our forum members, the cover was just another disappointment. “Try to convince me that this is Shalom,” pointed out helmutnotdead, suggesting the cover was heavily Photoshopped.

“Where’s Shalom? I can’t see her,” chimed in aracic.

“NO to this young Christine Baranski. Seriously, if they couldn’t deal with an older model, why book her? They couldn’t hide her face enough with that netting and all the retouching. Awful end to the year for them,” commented Benn98.

“Another disappointing cover from Vogue Italia,” Sensation echoed.

The discussion soon diverted to Patti Wilson’s styling. “I don’t know why they intentionally showed off the Celine label. Celine must have paid a lot!” stated TZ001.

“I screamed when I saw the ‘accidentally’ exposed label, so cheap!” dodencebt mocked.

Miss Dalloway, on the other hand, loved what she saw. “I LOVE this, there is something so 80s Helmut Newton for Vogue Paris about this cover, it’s just the perfect antidote to all the indie crap we are seeing lately. It will look even better in print.”

“Love it. What a coup, love the nuanced 80s reference with the Celine label showing. The best and most strongest VI cover I’ve seen in a while,” exclaimed samoanceleb.
