Currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, Vogue Germany has been putting out mostly dud covers since January — and not getting much attention on our forums as a result. A surefire way to get back on our radar? Feature Gisele Bündchen on the April 2019 cover. The Brazilian bombshell and forum favorite shows all cover girls before her exactly how it’s done in the sultry cover photo while getting us hyped for the warmer months ahead. Photographed by Luigi & Iango and styled by Paul Cavaco, Gisele was captured on location in Costa Rica emerging from the (murky) surf.
Unfortunately, members of our forums felt the cover was far from brilliant. “This does not look inviting at all. Vogue Paris on a budget and beyond deadline. The background doesn’t look inviting at all. Was there a storm coming? The hair is a big no. Look at that huge clump of hair on her neck!” MON pointed out.
“I like Gisele but this is all very boring, lazy and repetitive,” wrote Morgane07.
“Why does everything look so… dirty? I guess they were going for a raw and natural setting but to me it doesn’t work. It’s also a very strange shoot for Vogue Germany…no I’m not convinced by this,” said apple.

Also unimpressed was burbuja8910: “The cover looks like a catalog for swimwear, and that ugly font ruins the whole image!”
Vogue28 felt the same way, commenting, “I’m all for seeing Gisele on the cover of Vogue and I like everything here but that hideous shade of green they opted for with the masthead and cover text.”
“Green was a choice especially with that filter,” added crmsnsnwlfks.
“It’s ironic that for its 40th year, German Vogue has chosen to abandon what I would have said was its trademark cover style throughout the previous 39 years – strong studio-shot portraits of top models, with actresses etc making only an occasional appearance,” voiced tigerrouge.
A missed opportunity? Await more from the issue and have your say on Gisele’s latest, here.
