The New York Fashion Week Spring 2020 Diversity Report revealed this last season was one of the most diverse yet. Unfortunately, when it comes to the top models of Spring 2020, that wasn’t the case. Just three out of the top 10 models were women of color.
South Sudanese-Australian model Adut Akech had a terrific season and was the only black model in the top 10. Asian models Lina Zhang and Sora Choi (Chinese and Korean, respectively) round out the list. It’s noteworthy that some models of color just missed securing a spot. Egyptian-born South Sudanese stunner Anok Yai and Achenrin Madit (also South Sudanese, but born in Nebraska) came close with 31 shows apiece.
The Spring 2020 list is also lacking when it comes to size, age and gender diversity. This is all sadly similar to Fall 2019 when only four out of the 11 top models were nonwhite and there were no plus-size, 50 and over or transgender/non-binary models, either. We have our fingers and toes crossed that there will be more diversity for Fall 2020.
Click through the slideshow above to find out which models ruled the Spring 2020 runways in New York, London, Milan and Paris.
